This technology has been employed in various scams, including invoice fraud, phishing, and voice spoofing. For instance, a similar case in China saw a financial employee tricked into transferring 1.86 million yuan after a deepfake video call with a fraudster posing as her boss.


Deepfake technology poses a significant threat beyond financial fraud. Cybersecurity experts warn that deepfakes could be used to spread misinformation, manipulate stock prices, and damage company reputations. Jason Hogg, a cybersecurity expert and former FBI Special Agent, emphasized that this is just the beginning, as AI can generate deepfakes from publicly available digital content, posing new security challenges.
